The fall season means crisper weather, colorful foliage and an opportunity to appreciate everything you missed on those hot summer days. Here are some local Elizabeth City things to enjoy before winter comes: Let Nature Guide You The Dismal Swamp State Park as well as Merchant’s Millpond State Park offers canoe rentals to explore North Carolina’s shallow waters. Bring some sandwiches and snacks to experience a quaint picnic as you look upon the peaceful surroundings. Drop a Line October is the beginning of striped bass season in northeastern North Carolina. You can put your boat in at Waterfront Park (400 S. Water Street) or Dog Corner Park in downtown Elizabeth City. If you need to purchase your North Carolina fishing license, you can do so at The Pelican Marina or Walmart. Although the 100+ year old Elizabeth City Cotton Mill is now shut down, you can enjoy the spirit of the mill by visiting cotton fields near the blimp hangar or by the fields next to City Center West.
